A. Brittleness
Hair
looks dry, lifeless, lacks manageability
and snails easily. It has many split
ends and breaks when a strand is pulled
between the fingers.
Causes
-
Brushing wet hair and combing it
too roughly. This weakens the hair
and can lead to split ends and breakage.

If the perming solution is left
on the hair for a long time.
- Over
exposure to sunlight.

Prolonged illness cause hair to
become dry, and brittle and to break
off close to the scalp.

An imbalanced diet deficient in
calcium or protein weakens the hair.
Solution
-
Shampoo your hair by massaging your
scalp with the pads of the fingers,
not your nails. Work the shampoo
from roots to ends gently.

Do not use an electric hair dryer
or electric roller. Pat you hair
dry with a soft towel never rub
vigorously.
- Don't
brush your hair when it is wet.

Always cover your hair when you
are in the sun or moving in cold
weather.
- Be
sure your hair is in excellent condition
before you have it permed, straightened,
bleached or tinted.

Use a hair conditioner.
B. Dryness
Hair
looks dull, lifeless and does not
feel silky.
Causes
-
Tends to loose its natural barriers
of oil and moisture when it has
been over-processed or over shampooed.

Too long exposure of hair in the
sun and wind causes dryness for
different individuals who are affected
differently in such conditions.
- Chlorination
due to salt water.

When hair has been over blow dried
at high temperatures.
Solution
-
Use a mild shampoo formulated for
your hair type, in small quantity.
- Always
finish with a moisturizing conditioner.

Let your hair dry naturally. If
you want to use blow-dry, hold the
drier at least six to eight inches
away from your head and keep it
moving.
- After
swimming in chlorinated or slat
water, shampoo and condition your
hair.
C.
Dullness
Hair
has no sheen. It may have many split
ends. The color becomes extremely
drab.
Cause

The light that hits split or broken
hair is diffused and the hair looks
dull.

Lack of oil contents in the scalp.

When the hair has not been rinsed
thoroughly after shampooing.
- Washing
hair with hard water.
- Application
of hair spray of setting lotion,
which leave a dulling film.
Solution

Use a protein-based hair conditioner.

If you do not have time to shampoo,
dry-clean your hair. Pull a nylon
stocking over a brush and give your
hair a dozen strokes, it will took
shiner in no time.

If the condition does not improve,
consult a dermatologist. It can
sometimes be related to illness
or dietary deficiencies.

Lack of Body
Hair
looks limp, does not set and lies
close to the scalp.
Causes

Due to excess moisture in humid
weather.
- Over
conditioning of hair.
Solutions

Try washing your hair everyday.

Use an oil-free conditioner once
or twice a week to make your hair
look thicker and increase its holding
power;

a body boost.

Flackiness
Itchy
scalp and white flacks.
Causes

Caused by dandruff.
- Due
to very dry scalp.
- Cold
weather and winds.

If your diet is lacking in poly-unsaturated
fat.

Using too much hair spray.
- Do
not rinse thoroughly after shampooing.
Solution

Use a medicated shampoo prescribed
by a dermatologist.
- Try
washing your hair more frequently.

Add an extra tablespoon of safflower
of sunflower oil to your daily diet.
- Stop
using hair sprays, setting lotions
and conditioners.
